I was walking through Strawberry Creek Park
I has never been there before
Didn't know it existed
Even though I have lived in this
nestled piece of Paradise
For going on 20 years
With my friend the dog in tow
We explored the creek
the small bridges
and the slightly rolling landscape
when I came across a placard
filled with faces from some long lost
photo machine
Waiting for me to find them
They were worn with time
some of them being torn from their place
a light dusting of grafitti
and the ravages of nature
There they were looking at me
and I wondered who they were
what they were doing now
did they remember they left their photo
behind
Were they with the same person
did their heart still laugh
as it did the day they sat in a booth
and stuck their tongue out
mugging for the camera
a moment shared with themself
Do they come back ever
to see if their picture is still there
are they alive
or are they stuck there
in a memory of a picture
that is now long ago
What has become of them
What has become of you or me
or this world
for everything I see
has become skewed in a way
that I can't explain or describe
or translate into human terms
Maybe it all is simply
my illusion
or
Some mad god's sick dream
